About Dog Training Newcastle

My name is Terri and I am "Dog Training Newcastle". Dogs are my passion and I want to help you enjoy life with your dog! You will be amazed at what you and your dog can do together.

I love seeing that "spark" when a dog understands what you are asking and gets excited about learning! Reward based training is so much fun because it gives you and your dog a way to communicate your needs to each other. Your dog learns to trust that you're not going to hurt him so he is free to try to figure out what you are asking and is very happy to earn a reward for doing what you asked.

I enjoy working with all ages, breeds and sizes of dogs. I am experienced with rescue dogs, puppies, adult and senior dogs. All of the dogs you see on this website were trained by Dog Training Newcastle. You can see the wide variety of dogs. Just as important is what you don't see: choker chains, head halters, intimidated dogs.

Qualifications

Did you know that there is no government regulation of the dog training industry and anyone can call themselves a dog trainer or dog behaviourist? Would you trust your child's education to a teacher with no qualifications, or your health to a doctor who hasn't been to medical school? Why trust your dog to a trainer without a nationally accredited certificate of qualification? I have the following qualifications:

  • Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services (Dog Training) from the Delta Society of Australia. This is a highly respected, 2.5 year course involving over 600 hours of practical and written assignments. It teaches scientifically proven, 100% positive, reward-based training techniques.
  • Bachelor of Science (Computer Science). Before pursuing my love of dog training I had a career in computer systems analysis, programming and multimedia production. I worked in New York, Philadelphia, Tokyo, and England before settling in Australia. I apply my scientific background and logical thinking to dog training, whilst always remembering that I'm dealing with people and animals with feelings, wants, and needs.
